Young jazz that surprises.
Some orchestras come about by chance. Orchestra Felice, instead, was born of a clear idea: to give the very young a voice through jazz, understood not only as a musical language but as an experience of freedom, listening and growth.
Founded and led by Maestro Felice Clemente – one of the most highly regarded saxophonists on the Italian jazz scene – the orchestra was set up in 2016 within the Istituto Comprensivo di Villasanta, with the rare ambition of bringing artistic excellence into the classroom. But from the start it showed a broader spirit: a collective, intergenerational project in which music becomes a means of growth, community and discovery.
And so it proved: within a few years a group of teenagers had begun to play major stages in Italy, showing that music, when it is genuine, knows no age.
From the stage in L’Aquila for “Jazz per le Terre del Sisma” at Paolo Fresu’s invitation, to the historic theatres of Busseto and Monza, and on to UNICEF’s Children’s World Orchestra (35 of its 180 young musicians from 12 countries), these young players have lived through experiences that stay with you for ever. With talent, commitment and that wonderful recklessness of youth, they have grown into aware young artists, able to take on a demanding repertoire with a collective spirit and fresh interpretation.
When its school years ended in 2020, the orchestra reinvented itself: thanks to the Maestro’s determination and the support of the families, it became an independent music association, open to new collaborations and new members. It has never stopped playing since: from concerts with distinguished guests such as Karima, Tino Tracanna, Alberto Mandarini, Paolo Fresu, Marco Mariani, Andrea Ferrari, Pietro La Pietra, Daniele Longo, Alex Sabina and other leading names in jazz, to cultural series and festivals, every performance is a chance to share beauty, energy and passion.
The album “Living in Jazz” is the living result of a unique journey, where jazz meets growth, friendship and discovery.
Orchestra Felice is a small great wonder of the Italian music scene. A young, free, genuine voice – one that can surprise those who listen… and those who play it too.
